The Beginning
The Nii Mei Cultural Group was founded in 2002 by Mr. Nii Boye Owoo, a visionary who sought to gather the most talented drummers and dancers from across Ghana. With an eye for excellence, he carefully handpicked 22 performers, creating a troupe that has become a dynamic force in preserving and promoting traditional African performance arts. What started as a small group of passionate individuals has grown into one of Ghana’s most respected cultural ensembles.
The Team
Our group consists of 22 members who bring unique energy and talent to the stage. Our leaders, such as Mr. Richard Koomson, the lead drummer and dancer, along with pioneers like Bernard Okaikwei Tackie, Samuel Adjaloko, and Stephanie Asare-Bediako, have shaped the heart and soul of Nii Mei. Today, the group is managed by Mr. Ebenezer Kyere Boateng, who ensures that both the creative and welfare needs of the troupe are met, leading us into new heights.

We are proudly affiliated with the Centre for National Culture and the Ghana Dance Association, institutions governed by the National Commission on Culture. These partnerships ensure that our performances remain authentic, well-respected, and representative of Ghana’s rich cultural histor
